Microsoft
debates the VoIP market
VoIP technology is
growing on a daily basis all across
the world. New advances in technology
are making the service more reliable
as well as more contusive to family
and small businesses. Recent software
updates prove that VoIP will plan
an important role in the future telephone
market.
A new report released by the research
firm Info-Tech suggests that Microsoft
is debating the best way to evolve
themselves from a dominate IT software
distributor to a respected telecommunications
vendor. Microsoft has been slowly
moving in to the telecommunications
field. In March of 2005 Bill Gates
unveiled an updated Live Communication
and corporate messaging system entitled
Office communicator. Since the launch
of the messaging system it has been
evident that Microsoft is not going
to stop at simple video conferencing
and instant messaging. They will continue
to push into the VoIP services market.
According to Carmi Levy, senior research
analyst with Info-Tech Research Group,
“Microsoft is all about market
dominance. And they certainly will
pursue dominance in this market too.”
Microsoft is not going to jump into
this new VoIP technology just yet;
it is still early in the field. They
are going to slowly approach the market
to ensure success. It is unlikely
that Microsoft will build a telecom
infrastructure from scratch. There
will most likely be a partnership
with an established VoIP provider.
When Microsoft decides to enter into
the VoIP market they are likely to
focus mainly on the enterprise market
and then slowly work its way down
to the consumer products.
